Have you noticed that not many people seem to talk about OCD? Yes, there are people on social media that talk about it, but not as many as you’d expect.
I often wonder if it’s because the ‘influencers’ aren’t trained psychologists and OCD can be trickier and more complicated to overcome. But you can definitely overcome it.
You may have rituals you feel compelled to run, or you may have obsessive thoughts or number patterns. Regardless of the way you do OCD, there are specific ways to be free of it.
These are my top tips to free yourself from OCD:
Expect the unexpected.
Life is never predictable. To overcome OCD (and any anxiety) you must accept and expect the unexpected.
Stop reassurance seeking.
The only person who has the power to overcome OCD and anxiety is you. Stop outsourcing that power.
There are no answers to obsessive thoughts.
Always remember that they’re just thoughts. Stop engaging with the content and let it be the brains version of white noise.
Move towards any and all anxiety.
Trying to avoid anxiety of any kind never works. Avoiding anxiety is the best way to increase it. Lean in to it, go toe to toe with it and remind yourself that you’re bigger and braver than you think you are.
